Basic SEO
Note: Although the topic of optimizing content was initially discussed in How to Make Your Content “Google” Friendly — in this section we will get much more specific about what you need to do to get those top search engine rankings.
Your blog is up and running now, so it’s time to get traffic — LOTS of visitors with fat wallets — to your site.
The least expensive way to get traffic to your site is through search engine optimization.
What is search engine optimization?
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the practice of improving the volume and/or quality of traffic that comes to your blog from search engines via “natural” or un-paid (“organic”) search results.
The better your blog is optimized, the higher its listing will appear in the search results on search engines like Google.
For example, shown in the screenshot below are search results for “video upload sites” on Google, where a blog post on NetProfitsToday is returned in the 3rd position.

That keyword phrase typically brings approximately 500 visitors to my site each month.
But notice how the traffic to that post is declining month after month?

That’s because the site was ranked #1 for “video upload sites” in January, yet was in 3rd place by the end of June.
Therefore, it pays to try and get those TOP spots — and we do that by optimizing our content and blogs so that the search engines will find and rank our search results higher.
